Manchester United overcame a monotonous encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday when a Bruno Fernandes penalty ensured a 1-0 win over West Brom.
United entered the international half-time after a 3-1 win over Everton, but never got their rhythm against the Baggies without a win, and perhaps they were lucky enough to take all three points.
West Brom had a penalty disallowed as scores were tied at 0-0 in the first half, before United received their own penalty moments later after a handball.
Fernandes was denied a pass from 12 yards but, as in the case against PSG last month, a restart was ordered as a result of the opposing goalkeeper’s intrusion.
United’s next game is another home game against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League, as the Reds want to avenge their defeat in Turkey on matchday three.

United players standings: David de Gea Good vs West Brom
David De Gea
He got the best touches to deflect Karlan Grant’s effort. He made one of his classic Conor Townsend spike saves seconds before United earned a penalty. 8
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Non-existent in attack too often despite West Brom’s reluctant approach. It just doesn’t do enough in the future. 5
Victor lindelof
He did not appear to be affected by his back problem and helped United to score a clean sheet. 6
Harry maguire
The only one who acted like a true United player from start to finish and started the breakaway Anthony Martial should have ended. 6
Alex tal
He took some time to adjust to the demands and there were a few loose moments and his speculative shots went wrong. 6

United has a void yet to be filled
Now that Juan Mata has left, it seems the United players are taking turns playing on the right wing.
Fernandes is the last to cross, although Rashford is probably the man in charge until the end of this game.
So strange that they didn’t draft a first-team player for that position in the summer.

Right decisions
Johnstone was absolutely out of line. There is not even a debate there. In my personal opinion, none of the three penalty calls should be given in this game, but Furlong handball is a penalty by the letter of the law, as Line of Duty’s Ted Hastings would say. The letter.

United pays for team selection error
Matic is superfluous in this team, as is suspected.
United have been overly cautious with XI and need more creativity behind the four forwards (eg Van de Beek). Fernandes is deepening because he is not enjoying like 10.

Opportunity for West Brom
West Brom almost got ahead of him thanks to Bartley.
He gets into the corner and the defender tries a clever reverse header that goes over the bar.
A warning for United.

United’s transfer failure is being exposed
If this game were played during a transfer window, have no doubt that the words Jadon and Sancho would be in vogue. United do not have a right winger in the first team and that means their entire offensive structure is channeled down the left, with Mata getting in.
The absence of Greenwood has only exacerbated this problem.

“The joined form is too rigid at the moment”
I wonder if Martial and Rashford are temporarily worth switching over. Ivanovic doesn’t have the pace to deal with Rashford and Martial has been a bit disinterested so far.
United’s form is too rigid at the moment, not enough movement between their forwards.
