Giovanna Fletcher’s brother Mario Falcone has revealed that she saved his life after a suicide attempt, admitting: “I owe him everything.”
The former TOWIE star opened up about his popular campmate sister in an exclusive interview with Sunday People, after turning his life around and becoming a father.
Mario, 32, said: “People may not know this, but Giovanna literally saved my life when I was at my lowest point.
“I was having a really bad time eight years ago going through a very public breakup. I was getting a lot of hate on social media and I felt really cornered, like this was the only way out. “
He previously recounted how he tried to commit suicide by taking champagne pills after breaking up with his fiancee Lucy Mecklenburgh, his TOWIE co-star, in 2012.
When he woke up the next morning relieved of being ill, he vowed to seek help.
He explained: “Giovanna was incredible, incredible. It was clear that she was very surprised and upset. But in a crisis, it goes into super organized mode.
“He knew exactly what he had to do and where he had to go. She arranged four days of counseling with a Harley Street doctor in London at the beginning and ten more appointments during the weeks.
“That really changed things for me. He encouraged me to talk to people and not hold things back. That saved my life, without a doubt. “
Mario, who has just recovered from a hernia operation, found love again with makeup artist Becky Miesner in August 2016.
The couple got engaged and had a son, Parker Jax, in November 2018.
But the sleep-deprived couple began to fall dramatically when their newborn refused to sleep through the night.
Once again, Giovanna, who has children Buzz, six, Buddy, four, and Max, two with McFly star Tom Fletcher, came to the rescue.
Mario said: “When you have a child for the first time you have this vision that it will bring you closer and make you stronger. I think the opposite: the child will push them both to the limit.
“Giovanna’s advice saved our relationship in those early days. She told me ‘anything said angrily between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. does not count’.
“She took me under her wing. She said you have to be a team. As a man, you don’t realize how much your partner goes through growing the baby inside of them, until giving birth, until postpartum depression.
“She literally told me the right things to say and do. Without that advice, she really would have pushed Becky and me over the edge, so she saved us.”
He hoped his sister was striking a chord with ITV viewers because she is so easy to identify.
She added: “So many moms and celebrities who are particular moms try to pretend that everything is perfect. They all continue as Superwoman. But they never show all the struggles. G has always done both. “
Before being a celebrity, the couple caught up every day on the phone or in person.
But even though she misses her now, she joked that her husband Tom had taken the straw out in the care of their children.
He laughed: “I think Tom has it more difficult at home. If you told me you could eat a sheep’s dick or stay home for three weeks with three kids, I’d take shit forever. Hundred percent.”
Mario also spoke about his sister’s friendship with Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, whom he interviewed about motherhood, for his Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast.
He joked, “Who knows, we might see Kate and William making an appearance in Team G jerseys.”
Mario also recounted how his two sisters (also there, Georgina, 37) dressed him as a child when he was little so he could be in their girl band.
He said the family also has a strange nickname for Giovanna: “Fanny.”
Giovanna is warmly listed as one of the favorites to be crowned Queen of the Castle
Earlier this week, she had camp in stitches after fellow contestant Ruthie Henshall won 12 luxury items for the camp by going incognito and performing secret tasks.
Giovanna’s luxury item was a Reach For The Stars CD from S Club 7.
She told her camping buddies, “I know you are very excited about my luxury item. So I thought of something to lift our spirits and give us a little boogie: S Club 7 Reach. “
The camp went wild when they started dancing and singing the classic party song.
She has yet to audition, and viewers choose people like Jordan North and Shane Ritchie from preference.
