After signing a new contract with Manchester City this week, Pep Guardiola said Football saturday coaching in the Premier League has made him a better manager.
Guardiola has been with City for five years, the longest he has had at a club, but he signed a new two-year contract on Thursday to extend his stay until 2023.
Speaking exclusively to Football saturday Bianca Westwood, the Spaniard revealed her appreciation for the Premier League and how her time here has enhanced her managerial skills.
He said: “English football is fascinating because there are so many different cultures in a league and in different ways and I have learned a lot as a coach since I’ve been here.
“Seeing some amazing colleagues in England and the incredible players that are in this league, I feel like I am a better manager than when I came here, so I can be grateful for this opportunity. I will stay longer and enjoy that and learn from all of them.

“In five seasons, a lot of things happen in good ways and not in good ways, it’s normal. [Guardiola and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak] We talked but always when we put all the situations on the table, we decided that we can still be together for longer.
“This is a club that in the past did not win much. In the recent past with Roberto [Mancini] and Manuel [Pellegrini], they won and the most recent past, we won and won again. In three seasons we won eight titles, which is a lot in world football and especially in England.
“The pending issue is to continue doing it when, in the history of this club, it has not been able to do so. To maintain during the seasons, win titles or be there fighting for titles. That is the objective, not a trophy, but to be able to maintain this club. highest possible in terms of football.
“It is always difficult [to win titles]. To say that now it is more difficult seems that the previous years it was not and it was the opposite “.
City are in the midst of a transition after winning the 2018/19 Premier League title, having finished 18 points behind Liverpool last season, but Guardiola enjoys the challenge of an ever-evolving team.
He added: “[Building] the teams is not a finished business, it is not something like this season, you have it and it will always be for the rest [of the seasons]. People change, opponents know you better, and you have to evolve through this, but that’s why our work is good.
“If everything was always the same, the same training sessions, the same ideas, the same way we play, it would be boring. But the moment someone creates a problem or you drop something and you have to pick up the players, that is which is cute. “
Pep: A lot has changed since the last Spurs game
After a successful international break for some of his squad, Guardiola’s side came back strong on Saturday when they face José Mourinho’s Tottenham, live on Sky Sports, who came second in the Premier League during the international break.
It comes just over a year after Mourinho’s appointment, and Guardiola is impressed with the work his former foe has done at Spurs.
He said Football saturday: “José has done very well. It is uncomfortable for me to talk about the rivals but he is doing well. He is near the top of the league and in the Europa League, he is doing well. He has already spent a season with the players, They know exactly what the manager wants so that they are doing it right.
“It’s a team with incredible players and physique, a great squad up front. This season they have no injuries, last season they had injuries in important positions, so of course they are contenders. [for the Premier League title] and it always has been. “
Their last meeting in February will not rank among Guardiola’s best memories, losing 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Oleksandr Zinchenko sent off and Ilkay Gundogan missing a penalty.
“We played that game incredibly well,” Guardiola said of the Premier League match. “I would love to have the performance we had last season, repeat it.
“But we have to score our chances. We missed a penalty, we created four or five [chances] facing Hugo Lloris and trying to finish with 11 vs 11 but it is a different season.
“There are different players at that time, there were spectators and now not so much has changed.”
