Prison guards broke two of the ribs of Madeleine McCann’s prime suspect after she threw yogurt around her cell and blocked the toilet, according to a report.
Christian Brueckner, 43, was seen for the first time in public on Monday since German police named him the main suspect in the 2007 disappearance of the three-year-old in the Algarve.
The convicted rapist and pedophile was rushed to hospital for treatment after he “threw a tantrum” in his court cell by smearing her with food and filling the toilet with toilet paper.
He was due to appear before a judge in Braunschweig for a parole hearing on an unrelated drug charge, but 40 minutes after arriving he reacted furiously to being filmed and chained.

Brueckner leaves the A&E with shackles around his ankles after being treated for two broken ribs
A court source told The Sun: ‘He got angry about being filmed and complained. He reacted angrily and when he refused to put the shackles there was a more violent fight and he got hurt. ”
His lawyer Friedrich Fulscher told the newspaper that the guards were filming him through a monitor and asked them to stop.
They refused and an argument began. This continued and my client was attacked with a baton after he refused to put the prison shackles on him. He suffered serious injuries, two broken ribs. ‘ Said the lawyer.
‘It was behavior that was not expected from the guards. I had to involve a judge to make sure the footage was removed.
“ Yes, he did dirty his cell phone, but he was understandably angry about being filmed. ”
Fulscher has filed a criminal complaint against the guards for allegedly beating his client.
The convicted rapist and pedophile was attending court in Braunschweig, but ended up in hospital with a pair of broken ribs.
The court has claimed that Brueckner had “fallen” after coming to court from his prison in Kiel.
A prison guard is said to have told paramedics who arrived that “someone had been making a fuss.”
He was photographed on Monday being escorted back to an ambulance awaiting transportation back to custody after receiving treatment at A&E.
A court spokesperson said: ‘The exact sequence of events is now under investigation.
“In this context, we cannot comment on the details.”
Brueckner had been driven 186 miles from Kiel to Braunschweig for a parole hearing on his current 21-month drug sentence.
He will have served two-thirds of his sentence in January and will be eligible for parole.
The criminal has been identified by the German police as the main suspect in the kidnapping of Madeleine in Portugal 13 years ago.
Wearing a mask, Brueckner was ushered to the back of the courthouse Monday flanked by police officers.
Forty minutes later, paramedics hastily removed him after his “fall.”
The prosecution opposes his parole due to the pending investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.
The three-year-old girl was abducted from her family’s vacation apartment in Praia da Luz, in the popular Algarve region.
German prosecutors say they have “concrete evidence” that the little boy is dead and are convinced that Brueckner was behind the infamous case.
They said Brueckner, who has previous convictions for child abuse and rape, was known to be in the Algarve the year Madeleine disappeared.
Maddie McCann disappeared after checking into her family’s hotel room at a resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.
Detectives say the phone data proves that Brueckner was near the Praia da Luz complex when Madeleine disappeared, but they have yet to reveal “irrefutable evidence” showing that he is the one who took her.
When asked last month if forensic evidence can locate Brueckner inside the apartment where Madeleine disappeared, he said: ‘I have an answer, but we have decided not to release this information.
‘I can’t say’ yes’ or ‘no’ as that would bring up a thousand more questions and I can’t go into details.
But you have to believe me when I say we have more evidence.
“Here in Germany our Public Ministry only discloses things when they are solid.”
But last week, Portuguese police accused German police officers of having no proof that Brueckner abducted Madeleine, according to a leaked memo.
Judicial Police officers said they were “shocked” after being briefed on the German case against Brueckner, adding that “there is no evidence, only speculation.”
Portuguese detectives believe that the accusations against Brueckner are designed to “keep him in prison at all costs”, and accused their German counterparts of failing to carry out a serious investigation.
The extraordinary claims were contained in a memorandum prepared by the Portuguese police after meeting with German detectives and investigators from Scotland Yard’s BKA.
A leaked copy of the memo was shown to The Sun, in which a Portuguese official wrote: ‘There is no evidence, only speculation.
“When I read the German case, I was shocked. I never thought the BKA would investigate so badly.
‘The meeting was to get a sense of the situation, the BKA wants to investigate the other two cases of possible sexual harassment, so that the suspect is not released from prison until the end of the year and they leave the suspect.

Wearing a white mask, Christian was led to the rear of the courthouse Monday flanked by police officers.
German prosecutors say they have ‘concrete evidence’ that the little boy is dead and are convinced that Brueckner was behind the infamous case.
“It is not a serious and objective investigation, but only to keep the suspect in prison at all costs.”
Portuguese police have been accused of obstructing the investigation, including the theory that Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Jerry, were responsible.
Goncalo Amaral was fired for his handling of the investigation and the McCanns successfully sued him after pushing the theory that they were responsible in a book.
Hans Christian Wolters, the prosecutor leading the German case, was forced to admit last month that the evidence they have gathered is not strong enough to charge Brueckner.
He added that they are “a witness” to obtain the evidence they need, but so far no one has come forward.
Brueckner has previously said he is innocent of any crime involving the four-year-old.
