Rudy Giuliani Appears in Federal Court for the First Time in 28 Years to Push for Trump Campaign Election Fraud Allegations

In a dramatic opening statement, he used quotes from former President Jimmy Carter from 40 years ago to back up his argument that mail-in ballots are more susceptible to voter fraud, calling him a “prophet.”

The 76-year-old argued that the expansion of voting by mail this year is an example of how officials take advantage of a crisis, namely the pandemic.

He went on to claim that 1.5 million votes had been illegally counted, without explaining how he arrived at that number.

However, when asked later in the proceedings by Judge Brann if he should apply the strict scrutiny that a fraud case requires, Giuliani acknowledged: “This is not a fraud case.”

Mark Aronchick, the attorney representing the Pennsylvania counties sued by Trump, criticized Giuliani, saying that he was ignorant of the law, that he lived in “a fantasy world” and that he was pushing wild accusations that are “disgraceful in an American court” .

“Please dismiss this case so we can move on,” Mr. Aronchick pleaded with the judge. “There are no details. There are no numbers here,” referring to Giuliani’s nonchalant remarks.

He said the case had become something of a “lifeline” for the Trump campaign. “We have to move on,” he said. “We need to certify this election.”

Kathy Boockvar, Pennsylvania Secretary of State, will certify the election results next Monday, which means that Judge Brann is expected to rule quickly.
