‘Vicious and selfish’ man, 35, tricked a woman into taking him … then put a knife to her throat

A man was jailed after he tricked a woman into taking him before putting a knife to her throat and stealing her.

Craig Parkinson, 35, approached the woman on High Street in Rochdale and told her he needed a ride because he was being followed by a gang of men.

The unsuspecting victim took him to Peel Street, where he asked him to stop, police said.

Then she grabbed her purse from the back of the car.

The woman tried to retrieve it before Parkinson of Dukinfield pulled out a large knife and put it to her throat.

He fled the vehicle with the bag and used the woman’s bank card to make multiple purchases, including alcohol and bouquets.



The unsuspecting victim took him to Peel Street, where he asked him to stop, police said.

Three days after the incident, which occurred around 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, local agents arrested Parkinson.

He was charged and pleaded guilty to theft, possession of a sharp item, and three counts of misrepresentation fraud.

Yesterday (Monday 16 November), Parkinson, of Newton Terrace, Dukinfield, was sentenced to five years and three months in prison at Manchester Crown Court.

GMP Rochdale District Inspector Andrew Fern said: “We cannot underestimate the impact this offense has had on women.

“His life was turned upside down by Parkinson’s cruel and selfish criminal acts.

“Our thoughts are with her and we hope this ruling will help provide a closure measure now that Parkinson’s is behind bars.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the team of officers from the Rochdale Neighborhood Task Force who brought Parkinson to justice quickly and effectively and continue to make Rochdale a safer place to live.”
