JOnathan Ashworth, the shadow health secretary, asks if the health secretary can confirm reports that stricter restrictions will be imposed on level 1 areas after England’s current lockdown ends on December 2.
“It is too early to do the analysis requested by the honorable gentleman,” says Hancock, insisting that the government “will remain vigilant.”
Ashworth says he will “have a decision soon” on the lockdown, describing the tests for NHS staff as “crucial” in dealing with the backlog of patients and long-term waiting lists.
Ask for resources and capacity as part of the next spending review to cut down on waiting lists and times.
Hancock says the government continues to “outpace the backlog of patients” that accrued in the first wave.
“I think that instead of attacking the NHS, the honorable gentleman should stand behind the NHS and thank them for the incredible hard work that the NHS is doing right now,” he says.
