Hibernian 4-1 Dundee: Hosts win to secure seeded spot in second round draw

Three goals in six minutes secured Hibs the last seeded spot in the League Cup second round draw and Dundee advanced as one of the best group runners-up.

Kevin Nisbet was credited with Hibs’ second goal, but it appeared to be an own goal by Jordan McGhee.

And alternates Jamie Gullan and Melker Hallberg soon added their names to the minutes.

Jack Ross’s team, which posted four wins out of four in Group B, got off to a strong start and Mallan received George Newell’s pass before unleashing a 30-yard goal that beat goalkeeper Jack Hamilton at a central location.

Nisbet replaced Newell at the end of a quick passing sequence and the eventual shot slipped across the floor before returning to the right post.

Hibs ignored the warning after Danny Mullen threatened the visitors and McGowan’s bouncy ball knocked out the home defense for Elliott to force a tie.

Jamie Murphy was the architect of Hibs’ second, his driving career eliminating two defenders before his center to Nisbet was handed over by McGhee and Boyle then set up interference for Gullan and Hallberg.
