Kelsey Stratford’s little sister has been rushed to intensive care after testing positive for coronavirus.
The 20-year-old TOWIE star said Kennedy, eight, had been rushed to the hospital after falling ill and was later rushed to the ICU.
Kennedy has already been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic condition that weakens muscles and causes movement problems.
The girl was already suffering from respiratory problems, which have now worsened with Covid-19.
Kelsey announced the devastating news on her Instagram account Sunday afternoon.
She said her family is “heartbroken” by the news, but told fans that her sister is “really fighting.”
On her Instagram, Kelsey said: “Life is so cruel.
“My little sister Kennedy was taken to the hospital yesterday and tested positive for COVID19.
“We are all so heartbroken that Kennedy has severe respiratory problems due to his terminally ill SMA.
“So this is very dangerous for her.
“Kennedy was at high risk of contracting covid and we did everything possible to protect her from this terrible virus, but unfortunately, due to her low immune system, she contracted it.
“She’s in intensive care but she’s really struggling like always so I need everyone to keep her in their prayers and I hope she gets through this.
“My strong little girl, she doesn’t deserve any of this.”
Kelsey also shared a video of Kennedy watching YouTube videos as she looked back on happier times.
It comes after another tragedy struck the family when Kelsey’s brother and Kennedy’s twin, Karter, died.
Karter was also born with spinal muscular atrophy, but died a few weeks after he was diagnosed.
Earlier this month, Kennedy underwent surgery that he must undergo twice a year due to his SMA.
Kennedy has a spinrach treatment, which is injected into the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the spinal cord in the lower back.
On a recent episode of TOWIE, Kelsey revealed that prior to the treatment Kennedy was unable to speak.
It helps your muscle movement to make it easier for you to move.
Kelsey said, “She is [Kennedy] in the hospital right now for two weeks.
“Every six months he has to undergo an operation called a spinrazer, he has it on his spine and it helps his muscles to move.
“Before receiving this treatment, she could not speak or do anything similar to what she does now.
“For me, this is the most important thing in my life and I don’t want there to be any problems.”
