Christmas could reportedly be in jeopardy across the UK amid warnings that coronavirus cases will rise AGAIN under a three-tier system.
Alok Sharma earlier this week maintained the government’s stance that England would revert to a three-tier system as of December 2.
But it has been followed by warnings from SAGE, which say there is “little or no scope to relax the social distancing rules around Christmas.”
New leaked SAGE documents suggest: “If England reverts to the same tiered system application before November 5, streaming will revert to the same rate of increase as today.”
Any hope of families reuniting at Christmas will also depend on whether the disease’s reproductive rate remains below one for “some time.”
That’s according to documents released by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage).

Experts looking at the case data believe the growth rate is stabilizing, with the number of new cases per day across the UK being believed to be between 55,000 and 81,000.
This takes into account the cases in residences and hospitals, as well as in the community.
Younger age groups are experiencing a drop in cases, although levels continue to rise in older age groups, who are at higher risk of contracting Covid-19.

The R rate is believed to have fallen over the past fortnight, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson decreed a nationwide shutdown.

If this continues to be the case, or if the outbreak returns to current levels after the shutdown, Sage has cautioned that there is “little to no scope to relax social distancing rules over Christmas.”
