Mohamed Salah publishes the second positive test of Covid-19 in a big blow for Liverpool

The Egyptian FA has confirmed that Mohamed Salah has performed a second positive coronavirus test.

The Liverpool star will now need to isolate himself for 10 days, ruling him out of the top-of-the-table clash with Leicester on November 22.

A shared statement by the FA of Egypt Read: “Liverpool and Egyptian national team star Mohamed Salah has undergone a second test and the results have confirmed that Salah tested positive for Covid 19.

“All necessary medical precautions have been taken according to the world medical protocol and under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Sultan, Head of the EFA Medical Committee, as well as Dr. Mohamed Abou El Ela, Egyptian National Team physician.

“Although the first swab gave a positive result, the Egyptian FA has decided to carry out a second test to confirm the result.

“Salah is in high spirits and shows no symptoms of the virus. He has been isolated and the national team doctor is in contact with Dr. Jim Moxon, Liverpool FC’s chief medical staff, regarding this matter.”

Salah was routinely tested under protocols after joining his country Egypt for international service this week, and was found to be positive for Covid-19.

But the Egyptian FA was ahead of time by announcing that Salah had tested positive for the virus in a statement released Friday afternoon, but then removed that update within an hour.

They had not retested Salah at that stage, and a further update later simply confirmed that “three players from the Egypt and Togo teams tested positive” and the players would be tested again “to determine their position in participation. “.

That left Liverpool awaiting the results of a second test, which, now positive, means Salah will be forced to undergo at least a 10-day quarantine.

Provided Salah doesn’t develop symptoms, he could return against Atalanta in the Champions League on November 25.

The head of the Egyptian federation, Amr El Ganainy, says Salah will not leave Egypt until he has recovered.

Salah’s positive test will now raise questions after he attended the wedding of his brother Nasr earlier this week.

Salah, who scored in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with City, left Liverpool’s coronavirus ‘bubble’ to travel to Egypt for his African Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Togo.

But he attended the wedding in Cairo before joining the international side.

He was photographed and filmed without a face mask or social distancing, with images posted on social media showing him dancing with other guests.

Mahomoud Trezeguet from Aston Villa was also present.

Salah can be seen in some images wearing a mask while dancing. However, there are other images of him without using one as well.

In September, Egypt allowed weddings to take place in outdoor venues, after months of banning them in a bid to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The government announced that these would be limited to a maximum of 300 guests, and that they can only take place in tourist and hotel facilities that have obtained health and safety certificates.
