Liverpool’s Mo Salah tested positive for coronavirus, says Egypt’s football association.

Salah was scheduled to play for his country in tomorrow’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo.

The governing body said a medical swab taken from the 28-year-old tested positive for COVID-19, but the striker had no symptoms.

He said Salah was now isolating himself and would be “subject to further controls in the next few hours.”

Liverpool will not play again until their Premier League home game against Leicester on 21 November.

It’s the latest blow for the team, with news yesterday that Reds defender Joe Gomez underwent knee surgery following an injury sustained in England practice.

Preston North End player and Republic of Ireland international Alan Browne also tested positive for coronavirus after last night’s loss to England.

A statement from the Irish Football Association said the rest of the players and staff tested negative.
