Christine Quirk said: “Our thoughts are with all those affected tonight in Boode Croft and Stockbridge Village.

“The child’s family first and foremost, such a terrible loss in such a horrendous way.

“The neighbors, the whole community will feel this.

“Strength for the boys in blue also in the hope that they catch those responsible.”

Shortly after the murder, Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien shared his condolences with the man’s family and once again issued a statement condemning those who continue to use guns on our streets.

He said: “The investigation is in its initial stages and extensive investigations are underway to establish motive and identify those responsible.

“This was a cold blooded targeted attack on a residential street that took the life of a young man and tonight a family is mourning his tragic loss.

“The people responsible for this attack knew exactly what they were doing and need to be caught.

“There is no place in Merseyside for firearms, or for those who use them and bring fear to our communities.

“We need members of the public to submit information so we can keep our streets safe.

“I urge anyone who sees anything or has any information that may help us with our inquiries to contact us urgently.

“You may not think the information you have is important, but it could help us with our inquiries.”

An autopsy will be carried out by the Ministry of the Interior to establish the cause of death.

Anyone with information that could help detectives with their inquiries should contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555111.
