Senator James Lankford is preparing to intervene if Joe Biden does not have access to daily intelligence briefings by the end of the week, he told radio station KRMG on Wednesday, claiming there is no harm in his participation, even if it turns out it didn’t. Win the election.
“There’s no loss that he gets the briefings and can do that,” Lankford, who sits on the Senate Oversight Committee, told the radio station.
The Oklahoma Republican added that if no progress is made with Biden receiving access to daily presidential intelligence briefings, then he would step in and say, ‘This must happen so that regardless of the outcome of the election, in whatever way, the people can be prepared for that real task. ‘
“ There is nothing wrong with Vice President Biden getting the briefings so that he can prepare and so that he can be ready; the president is already getting them, ” Lankford said, adding that Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who is already a senator from California, has the proper clearances to begin receiving briefings because she is on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Lankford, however, has yet to admit that Biden won the presidency and has questioned the legitimacy of his victory.
Oklahoma Republican Senator James Lankford said Wednesday that he would intervene if Joe Biden does not have access to the daily presidential intelligence briefing by the end of the week.
Lankford, however, has yet to admit that Biden is president-elect as Donald Trump continues to raise questions about the validity and integrity of the election.
The administration of President Donald Trump has yet to allow the president-elect access to daily briefings as they continue to question the integrity of the election and have questioned whether Democrats cheated or ‘stole’ Biden’s presidency.
The General Services Administration Administrator Emily Murphy has yet to determine the election, which generally occurs after the election and allows the president-elect to receive the same reports as the president.
It is unclear whether he needs to determine the elections before Biden can legally receive the reports.
Biden has said the briefings “would be helpful, but not necessary.”
Lankford said that rather than knowing who the winner is quickly, it is more important that voters, especially Republicans, who supported their candidate, get answers to questions they may have about the results and how they were achieved.
“It is important to the more than 71 million people who voted for President Trump that, in the end, they know that all of their questions were answered,” Lankford said. “And that there is a president who was duly elected.”
Most of the major media outlets, including the Associated Press, called for the former vice president’s election over the weekend; shortly after, Biden declared victory. The call came after some key states, including Pennsylvania, projected that their electoral college votes would go to the Democratic list.
Republicans have questioned the results, insisting there was a fun deal with the massive influx of mail-in ballots this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump and his aides, allies, and most staunch supporters claim that Democrats cheated by counting the fraudulent ballots by mail.
‘Joe Biden can keep running and say,’ I’m president-elect, ‘and great if you want to say that, do it, and be able to do your prep work,’ ‘Lankford said in his radio interview Wednesday. The president can say, “Not so fast.” I have questions to answer. Great, go ask them. ‘
Lankford suggested that if Trump is unable to go through with his legal proceedings in various battle states, he could fuel conspiracies among his supporters and further divide the country.
Many justices have already dismissed lawsuits that the Trump campaign has filed in an attempt to raise questions about voting irregularities, fraud and repression.
Election experts make it clear that Biden’s margin of victory is too wide for court cases to be reversed, but if some key states were to nullify their Electoral College votes for president, it is still possible, but extremely unlikely, that he can withdraw the elections.
General Services Administration Administrator Emily Murphy (pictured) has yet to determine the choice, which is what is preventing Biden from receiving the reports.
The president said before Election Day that he would yield to Biden and make a peaceful transition of power as long as he felt the elections were free, fair and free from fraud.
“I can assure you that there will be a peaceful transition of power in the United States,” Lankford reiterated to KRMG.
During a press conference earlier this week, a reporter asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo if the State Department’s pause in transition efforts would harm national security.
“There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration,” Pompeo said, implying that he expects Trump to prevail despite losing the race.
The daily presidential intelligence briefings are highly classified and provide the president, and generally the incoming president, on urgent national security issues.
