The British Army chief was declared “missing in action” after he was dropped off in the wrong field in Salisbury, prompting a search.

Troops scrambled to locate General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith, a former SAS commander, after he was dropped off at the wrong field when he was visiting a 300-square-mile training area Tuesday night.

General Carleton-Smith was taken in a Wildcat helicopter to boost troop morale during a military exercise, The Sun reports.

He jumped out of the helicopter, but soon realized that he was lost when there was no one on the ground to meet him and the helicopter had already flown.

An anonymous general told the Sun: “These things happen more than you imagine.

“Mark is a very accomplished Special Forces operator. He can just gaze at the stars and navigate where he needs to be. He’s infused with escape and evasion skills. I’m sure he’ll see the funny side.”

The general was finally found by a welcome party.

The Army said it was never actually lost, but “it was not where they expected it.”
