US President-elect Joe Biden has chosen his longtime aide Ron Klain as his chief of staff.

Klain first worked for Biden in 1989 when the latter was a United States senator.

He was also in charge of America’s response to the Ebola crisis under Barack Obama in 2014 when Biden was vice president.

The 59-year-old was also Biden’s vice-presidential chief of staff and a senior adviser on the presidential campaign.

Biden said: “Ron has been invaluable to me over the many years we’ve worked together, including as we rescued the American economy from one of the worst recessions in our history in 2009 and then weathered an overwhelming public health emergency in 2014.”

Klain said, “It is the honor of a lifetime to serve President-elect Biden in this position, and I am honored by his trust. I look forward to helping him and the Vice President-elect build a talented and diverse team to serve in the White House. “

Klain, who graduated from Harvard Law School, is married to Monica Medina and they have three adult children.
