Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is out of the England squad for all three of his November internationals after sustaining a potentially serious knee injury.
The center-back will undergo a new diagnosis on the matter with his club’s medical team after suffering the problem in England training on Wednesday.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate says the full extent of the injury is not yet known, but he was “quite sore,” which will no doubt cause serious concerns for the champions, who have growing injury problems.
Southgate said: “I can’t tell you how bad it is because the scans haven’t been done yet. He was in a little pain. No one was around him when the injury occurred.
“We have to wait and see what the scans show and we are all hopeful that it is not what it could be. I don’t see him involved in the games with us.”
A prolonged absence from Gomez would be another major injury for Liverpool, who are expected to be without center-back Virgil van Dijk for the remainder of the season after he suffered a serious knee injury against Everton last month.
Coach Jurgen Klopp has also not counted on Joel Matip in recent games, as well as central midfielder Fabinho, who replaced the central defender after Van Dijk’s injury, but the Brazilian is expected to return to action after the international break.
Gomez is certain to miss England’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday and the remaining two League of Nations group matches against Belgium on Sunday and Iceland next Wednesday, although it is not certain that the latter will take place due to coronavirus restrictions.
Any non-UK resident is barred from entering the country from Denmark, where Iceland is playing on Sunday, due to a new strain of the virus being detected on mink farms in the Scandinavian country.
Meanwhile, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has yet to travel to St George’s Park with the rest of the England squad as he undergoes an assessment for a shoulder injury he sustained in the 3-1 win. 1 last Saturday at Everton.
United say Rashford will join the team on Thursday, the same day as England’s international friendly against the Republic of Ireland, making it unlikely that he will participate in that match. However, it will be available for the Nations League matches against Iceland and Belgium.
England are scheduled to play the Republic of Ireland in a friendly on Thursday, before facing Belgium and Iceland in the Nations League matches.

Robertson: Liverpool are doing well under the circumstances

“But we’ve managed to stabilize the boat a bit and get some great results. May that continue and may we continue to build our confidence and improve our performance.”
Saka: Kane helped me settle into the England team
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is grateful to England captain Harry Kane for helping him establish himself in the national team and hopes to restore the faith shown in him by manager Gareth Southgate.
Saka, who made his senior England debut against Wales last month, has been called up for the second time in the Southgate squad ahead of games against the Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since breaking into Arsenal’s first team in November 2018, revealing that it was Tottenham forward and England captain Kane who helped him settle in when he joined his team. international teammates.
“All the guys have been so good to me from the first minute I walked in,” Saka said at his first press conference in England.
“Harry Kane put his arm around me, spoke to me and asked how I was doing. For him to do that, he helped me settle in much faster and made me feel comfortable being myself with everyone.
