Liverpool extended their undefeated streak to seven games after a close draw at Manchester City on Sunday.
Gabriel Jesus disallowed a penalty to Mohamed Salah as the Reds held on to win a 1-1 draw at the Etihad.
The Premier League and the world champions do not play for fifteen days, as the international break leaves Jurgen Klopp hoping his players will return to Kirkby unscathed.
And here we look forward to the changes the Reds manager could make when they are next in action at home against Leicester City in the Premier League.
Williams or Milner?
A change imposed on Jurgen Klopp is almost certain to be the right-back.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to miss out on a calf problem, with James Milner, his second-half replacement at the Etihad, and Neco Williams vying to replace the Englishman.
Joel Matip had a solid game against City and will have had two weeks to prepare for Leicester, and is the favorite to line up alongside Joe Gomez in center back ahead of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.
As a left-back, Andy Robertson has some great games for Scotland, but he’s been in impressive form to stay ahead of Kostas Tsimikas.
The enigma of the midfield
Klopp caught City on a 4-2-3-1 approach, but few would be surprised if Liverpool were to return to 4-3-3 given Leicester’s threat on the counter.
Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum have become the mainstays of midfield and are expected to start such a key game.
However, there is a real mess in the last place. Naby Keita is in good shape and Curtis Jones has had a lot of playing time recently, while Xherdan Shaqiri has emerged as a genuine option.
Milner, if not needed on defense, also has strong claims, although it could all be overlooked in Thiago Alcantara’s favor if the Spaniard regains form after a knee problem.
Jota ready again
Up front, the international calendar may lead Klopp to change his three forwards.
Roberto Firmino is with Brazil in South America for the games against Venezuela and Uruguay, and could benefit from being benched due to the long journey.
Diogo Jota, then, is on hold, although Portugal’s matches against Andorra, France and Croatia are not the simplest.
Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah should continue in the top three, and the rotation is likely to come in the Champions League clash with Atalanta a few days later.
Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi are probably fighting for a spot on the bench.
