The TRAVEL quarantine will be cut in half at the end of the English blockade, the Secretary of Transport announced today.

Grant Shapps told airport operators that a new “test-and-release scheme” will begin once the latest shutdown ends to reduce the self-isolation of unsafe nations from 14 days to around seven.

It revealed today that the Travel Task Force has been “making very good progress.”

The new scheme will make passengers pay for a test after they arrive in the UK, four to five days after arrival, and if it is negative, it eliminates the need for quarantine.

He said while speaking to the Airport Operators Association this morning: “I want you to know that we are making very good progress on a test-to-launch program to launch once we get out of this lockdown.

“It will consist of a single test for arrivals to the UK provided by the private sector and at the passenger’s expense, which will allow us a much shorter period of self-isolation.”

Industry experts have said it could cost up to £ 150, but some of the costs are likely to be subsidized by airlines.

It also revealed that rapid-result tests, which are being tested in the mass test pilot in Liverpool, could pave the way for non-quarantine travel.

Mr. Shapps added: “This is a high precision swab test that gives results in less than an hour and you don’t need to go to the lab.

“Ultimately, it could also open the way for non-quarantine travel.”

It comes after a summer of disputes between ministers and the travel industry after the government imposed 14-day quarantine periods on people returning from dozens of countries, keeping people from leaving.

At the moment, people are not allowed to travel, either within or outside the UK, during England’s second blockade.

They risk paying a fine of £ 200 if they are caught trying to escape.

The one-hour Covid tests for tourists leaving the UK have already been launched at Heathrow, giving a boost to international air travel.

The tests are being rolled out for passengers traveling to countries that require a negative coronavirus test to avoid being quarantined.

Pre-departure testing facilities were launched at Heathrow Airport in Terminals 2 and 5 last month.

Initially, the trials are only offered to passengers traveling to Hong Kong, with plans to roll them out to other destinations.

The Collinson and Swissport test is a rapid, LAMP-type test that gives a result in approximately 60 minutes.

Passengers traveling only to Hong Kong can pre-book an exam, which must be booked online before traveling to the airport.

The test costs £ 80 and the results can be available in around 60 minutes, although the first passengers to receive the tests reported that it took as little as 20 minutes.
