Kyle Walker was branded a ‘car accident’ during Manchester City’s draw with Liverpool, as Roy Keane also criticized Sergio Agüero for being ‘overweight’.
England defender Walker fouled Sadio Mane in the penalty area in the 13th minute, and Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the resulting penalty.
Gabriel Jesús leveled for the hosts in the 31st minute and Kevin De Bruyne shot a penalty just before half-time when the match ended 1-1.
At halftime, when asked how Mane earned a penalty for Liverpool, former Manchester United captain Keane told Sky Sports: “Because he’s up against an idiot.
“Kyle Walker, people tell me he’s playing well, I don’t think so.
“This guy is 30 years old, he’s an international player, it’s a car accident.
“Keep making these kinds of mistakes. He was legitimately punished for it. “
Keane’s words could have been seen as harsh, as Walker was one of the City’s most prominent artists in the early stages of the season.
He also scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Sheffield United last weekend.
Defending Walker, former City star Micah Richards said: “He’s been in good shape. I think Roy is taking it a bit overboard.
“He has been one of the best City players [this season]. There he plays, should have waited.
“He bet [Mane] he was coming out, but Mane was there and he shot him down. “
Walker was not the only one to be criticized by Keane, who also admitted his frustrations about one of the Man City players who was not even involved on Sunday: Argentine striker Agüero.
The forward is currently out with a hamstring injury suffered in his third appearance of the season after returning from a knee injury suffered in June.
While some believe Aguero may have quickly returned from his original injury and only did more damage, Keane instead accused the 32-year-old of being ‘really heavy’ and ‘overweight’ upon his return.
“My problem with Aguero when he came back was that he seemed to be overweight,” Keane added. “God knows what size shorts he was wearing. It looked really heavy.
“Sometimes you can get injured and start running
“This idea that players need two or three months to catch up. He was worried when he came back, he looked very, very heavy.
“It’s hard to catch up, but don’t pack on the pounds.”
