Biden has been declared victorious despite Donald Trump’s allegations of voter fraud, but UK ministers have yet to comment on the election. However, the secretary for international trade, Liz Truss, has made clear that she believes that a trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the United States would come about regardless of the outcome. Concerns had been raised that Biden and the Democrats could block a trade deal because of the Irish American lobby in the party.
House Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi had threatened to use her majority to stop the deal on Boris Johnson’s home market bill after claiming that it undermined the Northern Ireland peace process.
Biden was also Barack Obama’s vice president when the then US president said in 2016 that Britain would be “at the bottom of the line” for trade deals if it opted for Brexit.
But MPs have told the Sunday Express that they have been told “don’t worry.”
One said: “We have been informed that concerns about Mr. Biden and the Democrats are inflated and that conversations with them have continued throughout the process, as well as the Trump Administration “.
Another added: “At first glance, a Biden presidency is not good, but it reports that Boris is delaying a deal with the EU to see if Biden’s victories are not true.
“They have assured us that the Democrats also want a trade agreement. But no one wants to comment publicly right now because it is a disaster in the United States. “
Last month, in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Express, Truss publicly dismissed concerns about the Democrats.
She said: “We are fully committed to the Good Friday Agreement to be able to address all the concerns that have been raised. During the talks I’ve been having, as well as In speaking to my counterparts in the Commerce Department, I have also been speaking to Democrats and Republicans.
“That is clearly important because all agreements must be approved in Congress and there is strong support from all parties for a deal with the UK.
“People recognize that we are a high-level country, we are not going to undermine American workers, we are not going to pose a threat to American manufacturing, we are complementary countries that already do a lot of business together.
“So I think Americans are just as excited about the opportunities for that as we are.”
In the interview, he also noted that the United States wants to link the world’s two largest financial service centers in the City of London and New York.

A senior cabinet minister told the Sunday Express: “Biden is anti-British. He’s stuck with the Irish lobby on the Democrats and was Obama’s vice president when he said that it would be “at the end of the queue” after Brexit.
“It is obvious that Trump wants a trade agreement with us and we would achieve it, but the Democrats already made it clear that they would block it.”
