21 things you can do in Wales from Monday that you can’t do today

On Monday 9 November, the people of Wales will come out of the 17-day lockdown to break fires to adjust to another “new normal”.

Starting at 6pm on October 23, the Welsh government imposed the ‘short and short’ firewall after sharply rising coronavirus cases were recorded.

The government said “the virus has woken up for the winter” and ordered the three million people of Wales to return to their homes and shops to lower the blinds once more to “save lives and prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed. “.

People were asked to stay home, not meet other households, and to work from home if possible. Bars, restaurants and nonessential shops and businesses were ordered to close once again.

But what is going to be different from Monday? These are the things you can’t do today but can do starting next week.

1. Go to a pub or restaurant

If you’ve missed a good pint at your place, you’re in luck. Starting Monday, up to four people can gather to eat and drink at hospitality venues.

The rule of four does not apply to children under the age of 11 and individual households of more than four are allowed.

So you can meet three of your friends from different households at the pub, but if you are in a household of six, they can all go for a pint together.

The experience will be similar to what it was before the firewall – face covers must be worn when not sitting down to eat or drink, all food and drink must be consumed at tables and will only be served at the table.

If you were hoping to return to the old pub atmosphere, we are not there yet, there will be no live music and TV broadcasts will be kept low. It is also possible that it is on the clock, as the Welsh government has said that tables must be reserved for two hours “as a general rule”.

You can read what Health Minister Vaughan Gething said about the new rules here.

2. Go on holiday to Wales

You can go on holiday anywhere in Wales if you live here, but people cannot cross the border from elsewhere to holiday. And you are not allowed to leave Wales for a holiday in England or abroad.

Travel abroad is only allowed for people with a “reasonable excuse” to do so, and vacations are not included in this category. You can only go on holiday to Wales with the people you live with.

3. Go shopping for non-essential products

All stores can reopen from Monday. Supermarkets will be able to unblock their non-essential aisles and sell clothing, electronics, and greeting cards again after their sale was banned during the firewall.

People are asked not to go shopping with people they don’t live with and to remember social distancing guidelines when shopping.

4. Get a haircut or go to a beauty salon.

Barbers, hairdressers and beauty salons can reopen provided they take “all reasonable steps to prevent the spread of the virus,” according to the Government of Wales.

People are expected to provide contact details when booking an appointment to allow for infection contact tracing.

Tattoo artists, spas and other services such as massages and acupuncture can also start operating again.

5. Go to the movies

Theaters, concert halls and nightclubs will be closed, but cinemas, bowling alleys, skating rinks, museums, galleries, bingo halls, casinos, and game rooms may reopen.

Alcohol cannot be served at this location between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. A maximum group of four people can visit these places, according to the rules in restaurants and pubs.

6. Get involved in sports

All sports and leisure facilities can be reopened. Elite sports that were suspended during the firewall can be resumed.

People can play sports or exercise in a group of up to 30 people outdoors, or 15 indoors if it is part of an organized activity run by a gym, leisure center or sports club. Exercise classes of up to 15 people can operate indoors.

Children under the age of 11 are not included in these, but measures should be taken to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in all activities regardless of the age of the participants.

7. Talk to people from outside your area.

During local blockades prior to the fire, people in blocked areas could not form an extended household or a ‘bubble’ with people from another area of Wales, unless one of those households consisted of a single person.

That changes on Monday, it can form a bubble with another home, but people are being asked to keep it local if possible.

The Welsh government has confirmed that “the slate was effectively erased” as of November 9, and that people do not need to bubble with the same home they had before the fire or local closures.

Extended households can meet in private homes and gardens, but there are high penalties for people who participate in multi-household house parties and you should only visit people in their homes if they are in their bubble.

People can also bubble with a home in England “but the arrangements will have to comply with the rules in both countries.”

8. Visiting people in residences

Many families have been torn apart by movement restrictions and need to protect the most vulnerable.

As of Monday, visits to nursing homes are allowed, as are visits to hospices, institutions for juvenile delinquents and safe accommodation facilities for children.

People are asked to “think carefully” before visiting people in nursing homes because of the risk of spreading the virus.

9. Meet people who do not belong to your bubble, but not at home.

You may meet people far from private homes or gardens, but the Welsh government is asking people to be ‘restricted’ in the number of people they see.

Social distancing should be maintained when you meet other people outside of your bubble and people are asked to meet outdoors when possible.

People are also asked to refrain from activities that may increase the risk of infection, for example screaming or singing in close proximity.

Remember, the maximum number of people that can meet (who do not live together) is four, this includes outside. But it does mean that a group of four could exercise together again if they wanted.

There are some exceptions to this, including access to education, for employment purposes, to attend a place of worship, or to participate in court proceedings.

10. Get married and invite 15 people

Many couples have had to postpone their big day this year due to the turmoil of the coronavirus pandemic and the closure of wedding venues.

Starting Monday, a maximum of 15 people can attend a wedding or civil union ceremony, as long as it takes place in a regulated venue. The same rule applies to funeral services.

11. Get together with more than four people for an “organized activity.”

Examples of “organized activity” can include sports and exercise activities, support groups, and other groups to support people’s health or well-being, such as breastfeeding classes or weight loss groups.

These activities have a limit of 15 people or 30 if it is outdoors. The number does not include people who are working on the class or activity or children under the age of 11.

During these activities, “people must be physically distanced” from people outside their home.

12. Travel anywhere in Wales

All travel restrictions in Wales are lifted on Monday. But the Welsh Government is asking people to be sensible and “think carefully about the trips they take”.

The more places people go and the more people they know, “the greater the chances of contracting the coronavirus,” according to the latest government guide.

13. Traveling to England for work reasons

People are asked to only travel in and out of Wales if they have a reasonable excuse, defined here.

14. The opening of university environments is allowed

Colleges of higher education, work-based learning and adult learning will be able to teach in the same setting as before the fire broke.

Universities can continue with a combination of classroom teaching and blended learning.

The Welsh government guide said: “While Covid-19 incidents have increased in the student population, evidence shows that this is occurring outside of the teaching and learning environment.”

Students are asked to stay on their class schedule and not ride home.

15. Children’s clubs can start over

Activities for the development and well-being of children, including sports clubs, drama classes, parent and toddler groups, youth groups, and religious groups, can be held indoors and outdoors , subject to the rules about numbers described above.

16. Open your hotel, B&B, campsite or other accommodation to guests

The hospitality sector has been hit hard during the shutdown and they are being given the green light to reopen and begin accepting reservations again starting Monday.

Trailer parks, hotels and campsites may be reopened, but only for residents of Wales for now. You can only go on vacation with the people you live with.

17. Go to a visitor attraction

All visitor attractions in Wales can reopen from Monday, but measures must be put in place to allow for social and physical distancing to protect visitors.

18. Restart the driving lesson and book a test

Drive tests and lessons can be restarted and a guide on what to expect from theory and drive tests has been published.

19. Moving house and viewing property to rent or buy

The guide recommends that the property you are moving into must have been empty for at least three days and be thoroughly cleaned before moving in.

You can find the latest guide on how to move house here. Restrictions on visits to the property will also be lifted on Monday.

20. Go to a place of worship

Places of worship will reopen Monday for community services.

Ceremonies such as weddings, christenings, and funerals can also be held in places of worship with up to 15 people, as long as they are large enough to do so safely.

21. Go to the library or community center

Libraries and community centers are allowed to reopen. However, it is up to each local authority whether to do so or what services are available as restrictions continue.
