The cordon remains in place on Stoke-on-Trent Street as police continue to question the man on suspicion of murder

Detectives continue to question a man on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday (Friday, November 6).

Emergency services were called to Leigh Street, Burslem, around 4.45pm after it was reported that the 29-year-old had been seriously injured.

Sadly, the woman died shortly thereafter.

A 39-year-old man, who police say is from Bournemouth, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody today.

The police remain at the scene and there is also a cordon.

June Cartwright, who lives near the scene, said: “This is such a terrible thing that has happened and the community is in shock. My thoughts are with the woman’s family.”

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place this weekend to formally identify the woman.
