Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti admits he has “sympathy” for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian manager faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after an uneven start to the new season in which his team has already lost four games.
After a rebound in form last month, United have had a disastrous start to November that has seen them lose at home to Arsenal and Basaksehir away from Istanbul.
Solskjaer knows his team needs a better performance before the next international break when they take on Everton on Saturday lunchtime.
The Toffees have been one of the surprise packages in the Premier League so far this season and Ancelotti admits he sympathizes with Solskjaer amid such public scrutiny.
“I feel sympathy for him because our job is not that easy,” Ancelotti told talkSPORT. “But Ole Gunnar wants to be a coach and that’s why he’s under pressure now and I’m under pressure now.”
Speaking before the game, Solskjaer insisted that he retains the backing of the United board despite his approach to Mauricio Pochettino.
MEN revealed on Thursday that United have probed Pochettino to become their next manager, but there is a reluctance within the hierarchy to fire Solskjaer so early in the new season.
“Yes, why shouldn’t it be?” Solskjaer responded when asked if he was still convinced that he could achieve success at the club. “If I don’t trust my beliefs and values, the quality of my staff and the quality of my players, who else should? I don’t look at one or two results and fall like a house of cards.”
