At least seven major television networks interrupted Donald Trump during a remarkable White House speech in which he questioned the entire presidential race and claimed it was rigged from the start.
Fox News and CNN were among the few channels to broadcast the president’s entire speech, with CNN’s Anderson Cooper calling Trump “an obese turtle flailing in the sun.”
That’s the president of the United States. That’s the most powerful person in the world and we see him as an obese turtle on his back flailing in the blazing sun realizing his time is up, ” Cooper said on air.
“But he just hasn’t accepted it and wants to take everyone with him, including this country.”
Trump opened his speech by promoting a conspiracy theory that the Democrats were committing ‘fraud’ and trying to ‘steal’ the election.
“If legal votes are counted, I win easily,” he said, even though legal votes are still being counted.
Several networks, including NBC, CBS and NBC, turned away from Trump’s spiel to verify his unsubstantiated claims.
“We have to interrupt here, because the president has made a number of false statements, including the idea that there have been fraudulent votes,” said NBC’s Lester Holt. “There has been no evidence of that.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper called it a “sad night” for Americans who had to listen to the president “try to attack democracy like that with this party of falsehoods.”

Trump has questioned why the majority of the mail-in ballots were in favor of Democratic challenger Joe Biden, despite repeatedly urging his base not to participate in the process.
USA Today Editor-in-Chief Nicole Carroll released a statement explaining her decision to withdraw live streaming of the event.
President Trump, without evidence, claimed that the presidential election was corrupt and fraudulent. We stopped the live stream of his comments early and removed the video from all of our platforms, ” he said.
“Our job is to spread the truth, not unfounded conspiracies.”
It is not the first time that the networks have decided not to broadcast Trump’s comments live.
In March, several ended their live broadcasts of one of the president’s briefings on the coronavirus shortly after he contradicted his own health experts.
Trump’s last-minute speech last night came as his small voting leads in Pennsylvania and Georgia slid even further, moving Biden closer to victory.
During the 17-minute tirade, he claimed that he was the victim of ‘big media, big money and big technology’ joining together to commit ‘historic electoral interference’ to give Joe Biden the presidency.
It was cut in a matter of minutes by MSNBC. Newscaster Brian Williams spoke about Trump, saying: ‘Here we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the President of the United States, but also correcting the President of the United States.
“There are no illegal votes that we know of, there has been no Trump victory that we know of.”
CNN journalist Daniel Dale, known for his rigorous fact-checking of the president’s claims, tweeted: “I have read or seen all of Trump’s speeches since 2016. This is the most dishonest speech he has given.”
Republicans also criticized the incumbent president, and Larry Hogan, the governor of Maryland, said: ‘There is no defense. No person or choice is more important than our democracy ”.
Joe Biden tweeted a reprimand shortly after he finished saying, ‘No one is going to take away our democracy.
‘Not now, never. America has gone too far, fought too many battles, and endured too much to allow that to happen. ‘
It’s still too early to call out the race results, but Trump’s path to victory is narrowing.
It has raised legal challenges in several states amid allegations of fraud, although judges in Georgia and Michigan, which Biden won, have already thrown out cases brought to them.
