‘They’re trying to rig an election’: Trump makes a series of unsubstantiated claims of election fraud | US News

Donald Trump has doubled down on unsubstantiated claims that his political opponents are trying to rig and steal the US election.

In his first 36-hour public appearance, the president said “we cannot allow anyone to silence our voters and fabricate results,” but declined to offer evidence of his allegations of corruption and large-scale ballot manipulation.

He insisted during a White House speech that “if the legal votes are counted, I win easily,” even though no winner has yet been announced and Joe Biden leads both the Electoral College and the popular vote.

Earlier, Biden stated that “every ballot must be counted” and urged people to “stay calm” because “the process is working.”

He said he felt “very good about our position”, adding that he “had no doubt” that he will be declared the winner.

Biden calls for calm as vote counting continues

Occurs when five fast-paced races in battlefield states are still too close to call.

Biden is 17 votes short in the Electoral College of the 270 needed by any of the candidates to win the White House.

If he takes Pennsylvania, where Trump is ahead but seeing his lead gradually shrink, that would give Biden 20 more and push him to the limit.

If you do not change the key state from red to blue, the remaining races in Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina Y Nevada it will make the end of the election even tighter.

On election night, Trump claimed victory before key results were announced and accused his political opponents of “fraud of the American public” without providing any evidence, calling for the counting in four states to be stopped.

In his latest remarks, the president promised that there will be “a lot of litigation” because “they are trying to steal an election, they are trying to manipulate an election and we cannot allow that to happen.”

Even though his campaign was repeatedly pressured to verify those accounts, Trump did not offer any, only promised: “Maybe it will end up in the highest court in the country.”

But Biden’s team responded, calling the intervention “desperate, unfounded and a sure sign he’s losing.”

Trump’s son Donald Jr has asked him to “go to all-out war” over the “deception” – again unsubstantiated – “that has been going on for too long.”

The president has taken legal action in several states in an attempt to stop the count, but was denied an offer in Michigan.

The race for the presidency may last up to a third day.

In Nevada, no further results are expected until tomorrow.

In Pennsylvania, Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar said that “the overwhelming majority of ballots will be counted by Friday.”

He also denied that there was any evidence of voter fraud, apart from a case of a man trying to get a ballot for a deceased relative that was discovered several weeks ago.
