A man admitted cutting the throats of his two young sons during the confinement. Nadarajah Nithiyakumar, 41, assaulted her 19-month-old daughter Pavinya and three-year-old son Nigash at the family home in Ilford, east London, on April 26.

The children’s mother, locally called Nisa, was in the shower at the time of the killings and alerted the police.

Pavinya was pronounced dead at the scene while Nigash was rushed to hospital in Whitechapel, London, but also died.

His father was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for stab wounds. When he was discharged, Nithiyakumar was accused of murdering the children.

In a police interview, Nithiyakumar, a shop worker, accepted that he had killed his daughter and son with a knife. He said that he had been depressed, and while working in a store, customers had “bothered” him. He had thought about committing suicide, but considered that it would “ruin the lives of the children and they would go astray,” a court had previously heard.

On Thursday, the defendant appeared before Justice Cutts at the Old Bailey, London. He pleaded guilty in court to two counts of diminished responsibility involuntary manslaughter, which was accepted by the prosecution.
