Who are your candidates for the presidential team?

Secretary of state

Susan Rice, a former national security adviser, has been touted as a potential nominee to the country’s top diplomatic post. Rice has significant foreign policy experience and knows Biden well from their time together in the Obama administration and could also be offered a position in Homeland Security or the Pentagon.

Chris Coons, who holds Biden’s former Delaware Senate seat and is one of his closest confidants in Washington, has also been elected to the Secretary of State position.

UN ambassador

Pete Buttigieg, a former Democratic presidential candidate, may be in line for the post of UN ambassador. Buttigieg, a young but talented politician, shares Biden’s desire to increase America’s position on the world stage. However, Buttigieg has no experience in the federal government; his most recent position was as mayor of South Bend, a small Indiana town. The 38-year-old, who previously served as a US naval intelligence officer in Afghanistan, is also reportedly being considered for secretary of Veterans Affairs.

secretary of the treasury

Elizabeth Warren, the liberal senator from Massachusetts, has been considered for the post of Secretary of the Treasury. A former Harvard Law Professor, she is a leading expert on bankruptcy law in the United States. Ms. Warren honed her progressive credentials after the financial crisis by leading the big banks to task and leading industry reform, including helping to establish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. However, it is deeply unpopular with Wall Street, and with many Republicans, and could face difficulties in being confirmed by the Senate.

Attorney General

Sally Yates, the former acting attorney general, who served in the Obama administration, is believed to be under consideration to head the Justice Department. Ms. Yates served as Barack Obama’s deputy in the department before becoming acting attorney general in the early days of the Trump administration. Trump fired her less than two weeks after failing to defend the president’s Muslim travel ban in court. Ms. Yates has a good chance of being confirmed by the United States Senate – she was confirmed by a large majority in her previous position.

Ms. Warren is also reportedly being considered for the position of Attorney General. So is Stacey Abrams, a rising star of the Democratic Party who came close to becoming governor of Georgia in 2018 but lacks national experience.
