Police have urged a suspect to turn himself in immediately after the alleged rape of a teenage girl in South West London.
Officers are searching for Kadian Nelson, 26, following the incident in Merton around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Since then, videos and images have emerged of groups of people going to various addresses to try to locate the suspect.
Warning the public to stop doing this, Detective Superintendent Owain Richards said: “Of course, we are aware of videos and images circulating on social media, and of groups of people attending various addresses.
“I urge those people to go home. Don’t try to take the law into your own hands or you may end up doing something you regret and potentially face police action.”
He added: “I appeal directly to Kadian to go to the nearest police station immediately, or to call the police and inform us of his whereabouts. This is for his safety, as well as that of members of the public. “.
“I recognize that this is a shocking and distressing incident and that local emotions are very high.”
The teenager and her family have the support of specialized agents, police said.
No one has been arrested and local officials are patrolling the area.
Any witness or person with helpful information is asked to call the police at 101 and quote CAD reference 1063 / November 3.
