Former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) issued a statement on Monday night confirming that it is aware of an allegation against national team coach Giggs, first reported in The Sun.
The newspaper says police were called to the 46-year-old’s home Sunday night after receiving reports of a riot.
Giggs was arrested and questioned on suspicion of assault and actual bodily harm.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called at 10.05pm Sunday to report a disturbance. A woman in her 30s suffered minor injuries but did not require any treatment.
“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of battery under section 47 and common battery under section 39.”
He was arrested and released on bail pending investigations.
Wales were due to name their team tomorrow before the November games against the United States, Ireland and Finland. That announcement has now been canceled.
A statement from the Football Association of Wales read: “The FAW is aware of an alleged incident involving men’s national team manager Ryan Giggs.
“The FAW will not comment further at this time.”
A statement made by a Giggs representative, reported in the Mirror, said: “Mr. Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him. He is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them with their ongoing investigations.”
