More than 200 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Somerset in the latest figures.
Data released today (Oct 30) at 4pm by Public Health England indicates that there have been 217 new positive tests across the county.
There has been an increase in new cases in Bath and northeast Somerset, the day after the area council announced it would send a “severe” warning letter to residents about the possibility of a local shutdown.
There have been 88 new cases in the region in the last 24 hours, a significant increase from 52 cases yesterday (October 29).
North Somerset has seen 60 new cases, making it the second-worst-hit area in the county in the past 24 hours.

The Sedgemoor region has seen 20 new cases, and 17 cases have been reported in the Somerset West and Taunton and Mendip regions.
The least affected area is South Somerset, where 15 new positive tests have been registered.
Now a total of 6,490 cases have been reported across the county since the start of the pandemic.

Further afield, Bristol is now officially at “Tier 1 Plus,” a new part of the coronavirus tier system created by the leaders of the Southwest.
The death toll from coronavirus in the UK has dropped in the past two days, with today’s national total below 300 for the second day in a row in today’s figures.
On Friday, 274 more people were killed, bringing the UK’s total death toll to 46,229 after that number stood at 280 on Thursday (October 29).
Cases across the UK continue to rise, with 24,405 new infections reported today.
It means that 989,745 people have tested positive for the virus.

The region’s growth rate, which reflects how quickly the number of infections is changing day by day, was between plus four and plus seven percent, as of Friday (October 30).
The rate for England as a whole was plus two to plus four percent.
The Southwest R has been slightly reduced to a range between 1.2 and 1.5.
This means that, on average, every 10 people who contract the virus will infect between 12 and 15 more people. R at the national level is between 1.1 and 1.3.
