Eddie Nketiah and an impressive Joe Willock gave Arsenal a two-goal lead just before half-time in Thursday night’s one-sided Europa League game and Nicolas Pepe put the hosts out of sight with an impressive goal within minutes of the second half.
The Gunners were in cruise control from then on and the result ensured that their 100% record in this year’s competition remained intact.
Talking to BT sport Shortly after the final whistle, Arsenal manager Arteta said: “I think we made it look easy because we were very disciplined.
“We take it seriously and we did it from the beginning because the dangers when you are not a 100% team can cause you problems.
“We made a lot of changes, we gave other players opportunities. They deserved it and played well ”.
Willock has yet to appear in the Premier League this season, but he seized his opportunity with a man-of-the-match display at the Emirates and Arteta admitted that Arsenal’s fringe players were making his life ‘difficult’ vis-à-vis the national team.
“We have a great squad and I wanted to give everyone opportunities,” added the Spaniard.
“There were players who have been very patient and have trained well and today they have shown that they are well prepared when we need them.
“Today they made things more difficult for the national team.
“Sometimes when they don’t play, it’s not something they can do more, it’s because we have to choose players and sometimes we look for something else.
“Sometimes it’s about the quality, sometimes it’s about the tactical plan we have for the game, but I’m very satisfied with the performance and the way they reacted today.”
Arteta urged his players to quickly turn their attention to this weekend trip to Old Trafford when they face United unbeaten in their last four games.
“After losing the way we lost against Leicester, it was painful at home and it took us a few days to digest that loss,” he continued.
But you have to react immediately with a victory, with this kind of attitude and let’s get ready.
“We go to Old Trafford and try to win again.”
