Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dismissed Paul Scholes’ comment on Marcus Rashford after Manchester United’s win over RB Leipzig.

English international Rashford came off the bench for the Red Devils in the Champions League on Wednesday night and scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory.

Scholes and Rio Ferdinand praised the forward after the match, with the former telling BT Sport: “It was electrifying when [Rashford] wine.

“Fernandes, when Manchester United came in, suddenly they had some possession in their half, which they didn’t have in the first half.

“Marcus, with that speed and his shot, was also ruthless. He was brilliant.

“You expect this from him. Brilliant ball from Fernandes (for Rashford’s second goal) – great vision, he’s probably the only player on the field who could see that.

“I liked his cruelty tonight, you felt that every time it happened, he was not giving the goalkeeper a chance, he was breaking it on the net.

“His shot has been questioned in the past, but if he keeps the attitude tonight, you’re seeing 25 goals from him.”

Solskjaer sat down to speak to the press after the win and was asked for his opinion on whether Rashford can be a 25-goal striker per season.

But the Norwegian dismissed the question outright.

“Now is not the time to think about how many goals you are going to score,” replied the Manchester United manager.

Scholes praised the England international on Wednesday night

“As long as you focus on the next job at hand, training tomorrow, of course he only played 30 minutes. There is one step at a time, if you go too far ahead, you will lose focus.

“Marcus has shown that he can continue to focus on what’s important on and off the court right now. He did really well today coming off the bench.”
