Frank Lampard will speak with his Chelsea team before deciding whether Jorginho remains the club’s penalty taker.
Jorginho, whose trademark skipped the penalty shootout has proven largely effective, missed his second penalty shot of the season when the Blues defeated Russian club Krasnodar 4-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Timo Werner scored a late penalty after Italian midfielder Jorginho was substituted, raising the question of who will be preferred up front.
“Jorginho has had an incredibly successful rate of scoring penalties in his career, particularly at Chelsea,” Lampard said, and Jorginho has now missed twice and scored three from the penalty spot this season.
“My feeling is that when you take as many penalties as he does, there can be periods where you miss one, and sometimes there can be periods where you miss one or two. I experienced it as a player.
“I have no problem with his style of taking them, from the success he has had, and Timo Werner, I know that he is very capable of taking penalties as we saw.
“We have other players who can too, so I’ll talk to the players later to see how we progress. But we have good penalty shooters at the club.”
Callum Hudson-Odoi, Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic scored and Chelsea sealed a resounding victory and their third clean sheet in a row against owner Roman Abramovich.
Hudson-Odoi was seen with ice on his left thigh after being replaced after 70 minutes, but Lampard is hopeful that the 19-year-old English international has avoided a serious injury.
“I think the goal is clearly going to be good for their confidence,” Lampard said. “There were things I liked about his game today, his desire to run behind defense.
“Sometimes the one-on-one did not go quite well, but I am very happy when you play in the Champions League and score your goal, I know the feeling of confidence it can give you.
“Regarding his injury, they haven’t told me after the game that there is a problem, so I guess and hope there is nothing wrong.”
Chelsea boss Lampard admitted that it was a boost to the coaches and players that former owner Abramovich was able to see the Blues first hand as he is unable to attend matches at Stamford Bridge due to UK visa issues. .
“He was aware that he was in the game obviously, which always makes us happy,” Lampard said. “I always feel the support of the owner of the club, whether he is here at the games or not.
“But having him here is a good advantage for me and for the squad, and of course we respect him a lot. I couldn’t see him, because before the game he was in the dressing room.
“A couple of my staff members talked to him, but when I came out in the warm-up, he wasn’t around.
“I am very happy to have done what I thought was a good performance with four goals and a clean sheet in his home country, and I hope it made him happy.”
