Liverpool’s defensive woes have worsened after Fabinho withdrew midway through the first half of their Champions League clash with FC Midtjylland.

The Brazilian international stopped shortly before half an hour against the Danes without contact from the opposition.

Academy defender Rhys Williams was introduced for his second career in European competition after his late cameo against Ajax last week.

Fabinho will be evaluated by the club’s medical staff ahead of West Ham’s visit to the Premier League on Saturday.

But the setback has come at a terrible time for coach Jurgen Klopp.

With Virgil van Dijk set for surgery for an ACL injury and Joel Matip still struggling to demonstrate his long-term fitness, Klopp will be sweating with the diagnosis of Fabinho, who has been asked to return to defense for much of the season so far. .

Matip has missed the last three games and will be checked again before the weekend’s game with the Hammers.
