West Ham v City: match day LIVE

The Belgian is back in the squad after a two-game absence due to an injury suffered in international service as Pep Guardiola maintains faith in the team that beat Porto 3-1 in the middle of the week.

The City manager had hinted that not all of his injured players would recover in time and that means there is no room for Nathan Ake or Aymeric Laporte.

Ederson makes his 150th appearance with the Club in all competitions and the reserve bench also includes midweek scorer Ferran Torres and Academy graduate Cole Palmer.

Training

An unchanged team suggests an unchanged setup so it looks like it will be the usual 4-3-3 formation for City.

Joao Cancelo should take the role of left back again, with Kyle Walker on the opposite flank and Eric Garcia and Ruben Dias in the middle.

Rodrigo, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva will form midfield three and Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling will be on either side of Sergio Agüero.

Bernardo Silva: City playing with real hunger

Can Sterling attack again?

Sterling has a remarkable record against today’s opponents.

The City number 7 has scored six goals and provided five assists in his last six Premier League starts against West Ham, including a hat-trick in this match last season.

The winger, who is captaining the team for the third consecutive game, is in good shape after scoring in the previous two league games and claiming an assist against Porto.

They face a Hammers side that produced some impressive results so far this season, winning comfortably against Wolves and Leicester City before last weekend’s inspired comeback against Tottenham Hotspur.

That will certainly give them confidence, but perhaps that can play into the hands of City and if the home team chooses to adopt a more adventurous game plan, it could give Sterling a chance to exploit the gaps in defense.
