The Manchester City team’s flight to London was forced to reroute due to a problem with the plane’s braking system, according to reports.

Pep Guardiola’s team flew into the capital from Manchester on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Ham.

They were supposed to arrive at London City Airport in the evening, but instead diverted to Stanstead about 33 miles from their destination.

According to the Daily Mail, there was a problem with the aircraft’s non-slip braking system, which was carrying the entire squad, including members of the backroom staff.

The failure meant that the plane needed a longer runway than the one present at London City Airport to land safely.

Stanstead has a longer runway and the plane was diverted to land in Essex.

Manchester City are hoping to take all three points away from West Ham this Saturday, but Guardiola believes the East London side have an advantage heading into the clash.

Unlike Man City, the Hammers have no European commitments this season, and Guardiola believes David Moyes’ players will be fresher as a result.

“That is why this league was always so difficult and everyone can lose everywhere,” Guardiola said, assessing the additional stresses of European football.

“That’s why some guys have seven or eight days to prepare, a huge advantage for the other team. We can adjust, accept, handle the situation whether you are a player or a coach.

“All the teams that play in Europe have the same problem. The schedule is crazy for everyone. For three, four games in a row I may decide to use the same squad and other make changes.”
