Stoke-on-Trent, Coventry and Slough will move to Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions and discussions will begin on the possibility of placing Warrington at Tier 3.
Health Secretary Matt hancock made the announcement in parliament, as he warned that it would be “catastrophic” not to act and leave COVID-19 “unleash all your strength.”
The Level 2 changes will go into effect at 12:01 am on Saturday, which means that people will not be able to meet other households socially indoors.
Hancock said that in all three regions, infections have risen to more than 100 per 100,000 people and cases are doubling every fortnight.
He added that for the affected residents, “we will support them at all times,” noting the more help for workers and companies unveiled by Chancellor Rishi Sunak earlier.
The expected change for Warrington is due “to a continued increase in cases there,” Hancock said.
“There is an excellent local hospital in Warrington, but it handles a large number of cases,” he explained.
And Hancock revealed some advancements in the massive tests.
Lateral flow tests have now started to be implemented in schools and universities, which is useful because they do not require a laboratory or a machine.
The health secretary said he had bought “many millions” and that they would help “find the virus where it is spreading and reduce the disruption that virus control measures inevitably create.”

The three-tier system for England was introduced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this month in an attempt to simplify the rules, as the country heads for a second peak of coronavirus cases.
