A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was left with life-changing injuries following a car accident in Southwark, south London.

Three other officers were injured in the crash and another during the arrest.

A police statement said: “A police vehicle was involved in a collision with another car shortly before 1.30 pm on Tuesday October 20 at Draycott Close near the intersection with Edmund Street, SE5.

“The driver of the police vehicle remains in the hospital with life-changing injuries. Another officer also remains in the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.”

“Two other officers have been discharged with minor injuries. Another officer suffered minor injuries in the arrest.

“The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to endanger his life. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.”
