Leeds have confirmed that midfielder Kalvin Phillips could be out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.
The English international does not need surgery for the injury, which he suffered during Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Wolves on Monday.
It’s a major setback for Phillips in what has otherwise been an exciting year following the club’s promotion to the Premier League and the 24-year-old’s debut for England.
England manager Gareth Southgate was in the stands at Elland Road on Monday, having chosen Phillips from the last two international teams.
Phillips has started all five Premier League games so far this season for Leeds, which ranks 10th in the table with seven points.
In a statement Tuesday, Leeds said: “Kalvin began his rehab at Thorp Arch this morning and will work hard with the medical team to get back in action as soon as possible.”
Leeds suffered a double injury at the international break when center-backs Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente reported problems.
Cooper was declared fit for Monday’s game against the Wolves, but was injured in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Pascal Struijk.
