10-year-old dies and another fights for his life after Anlaby Road accident

A 10-year-old boy died after colliding with a car on Anlaby Road.

He was riding a bicycle when the accident occurred near the intersection with Selby Street on Monday night.

The boy was traveling with his friend who was also beaten, and is being treated in hospital for his “life-threatening” injuries.

The road had to be closed for several hours after the incident at 6:10 p.m., leading to both children being rushed to the nearby Hull Royal Infirmary.

However, one of the victims died shortly after, Humberside police confirmed.

A 30-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of driving offenses in connection with the collision and remains in police custody.

Both roads have been closed overnight on Monday.

Police were once again photographed at the scene Tuesday morning when the force confirmed that their severe collision unit is investigating.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the force confirmed the sad news.

“A 10-year-old boy was sadly killed after a collision on Anlaby Road in Hull last night, Monday, October 19,” he said.

“The collision occurred shortly after 6 pm when a blue BMW collided with two children on bicycles on the overpass near the Selby Street junction.

“Emergency services came in and the children were taken to hospital for treatment for life-threatening injuries.

“One of the children sadly died shortly thereafter. His family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.

The other boy remains in the hospital in critical condition.

“A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offenses in connection with the collision, he remains in our custody while investigations continue.

The accident happened near Hull Royal Infirmary

“Officers in our severe collision unit are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, who has not yet spoken to us, to get in touch.”

“They are also eager to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle prior to the collision or anyone with dash cam footage driving in the area at the time.”
