VAR David Coote has come under scrutiny from many people following his decision not to review Jordan Pickford’s tackle at Goodison Park yesterday.
And ECHO columnist John Aldridge is no happier with him than any other Reds fan.
He wrote for the Irish Independent: “A wonderful Merseyside derby was ruined by some crazy VAR decisions at Goodison Park, without my pointing finger at referee Michael Oliver after yesterday’s 2-2 draw.
“If anyone can think of a credible reason why VAR official David Coote didn’t tell the referee that he needed to see Jordan Pickford’s challenge in the first half over Virgil van Dijk, then I’m all ears.
“The wacky VAR lines that nobody can solve told us that Van Dijk was half a millimeter offside in preparation, but that doesn’t mean Pickford can hit the Liverpool center-back and take him out by the knee.”
Says the tackle ‘It could jeopardize Liverpool’s entire Premier League title defense. ‘
The full extent of Van Dijk’s injury will be revealed shortly. Liverpool believe that Thiago’s blow, sustained when Richarlison was sent off, is not so serious.
