Four of the five youths who were involved in a car accident in the West Midlands have died, police said.

The group was traveling in a yellow Skoda when it hit a tree near the Standhills Road junction in Kingswinford, near Dudley, on 13 October.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Bromley Lane around 8.50pm.

West Midlands police said driver Joshua Parkes, 21, rear passenger Lucy Tibbetts, 16, and another 16-year-old girl, whose name has not been forcibly released, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two passengers, Nathan Cartwright, 18, and a 16-year-old girl, were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Officers confirmed Sunday afternoon that Cartwright had died in the hospital on Saturday. The last passenger remains in the hospital in stable condition.

Their families have paid tribute to Miss Tibbetts and Mr. Cartwright.

Miss Tibbetts’ mother said in a statement: “Our beautiful baby has been taken from us. You were an inspiration Lulu, you made us smile when you found it so difficult for yourself.

“[You were] not just a daughter, [you were] a true friend. Rest in peace, no one can hurt you now. “

Cartwright’s mother said: “My beautiful boy Nath was taken too early. You lived your short life to the fullest. Now you are at peace.

“I would also like to thank the emergency services and QE hospital for saving his life and giving me the opportunity to say goodbye to him.”

The force said there was a police car in the immediate vicinity of the accident, but at this time it is not known if there was any interaction with the Skoda. It will be part of your investigation, he added.

CP Chris Ridge of the collision investigation unit said the deaths of the youths were “shocking and deeply disturbing to all.”

“We are still working on a number of lines of investigation as we try to understand what happened and why,” he added.

“Anyone who has seen the Skoda driving in the area last night, or who has captured something on the dash cam footage, should contact us as soon as possible.”
