German striker Werner, who joined Chelsea from the Premier League in July from RB Leipzig, scored just once in his first five appearances for the Blues.
However, the 24-year-old put up his best performance for Chelsea to date on Saturday, scoring two goals when Frank Lampard’s team drew 3-3 with the Saints.
Arsenal legend Wright was impressed by Werner’s performance and says Chelsea will cause a lot of ‘trouble’ for their Premier League rivals once the team fully clicks.
When asked if Werner’s goals against Southampton will be the first of many for Chelsea, Wright told the Match of the Day: ‘Yeah, I think so.
‘When you look at the way he’s played, he didn’t seem too concerned about not scoring.
It is the movement and the races you are doing. You look at Werner, Mount and Havertz … something is happening between them.
“Once Chelsea can get things going, I think they are going to cause problems. I was not worried about him [Werner] not score goals.
‘Once they get it going, they will be a real problem. They have to eliminate the bugs because in the future they look really dangerous. ‘
Werner’s first-half double saw Chelsea take control of their Premier League clash against Southampton, but Danny Ings cut the deficit before the break.
Then Che Adams took advantage of a confusion between Kurt Zouma and Kepa Arrizabalaga to restore parity, before Kai Havertz put Chelsea in front.
However, Southampton came back and earned a deserved point in injury time with a header from Jannik Vestergaard.
Premier League legend Alan Shearer said: ‘There have been too many individual mistakes [from Chelsea].
‘Once Southampton had the faith, they were in the game. They went higher on the field and then there was that mistake from Zouma and the goalkeeper.
Frank must have been a nervous wreck every time the ball approached the defense. Southampton deserved a point.
