Portuguese international Fernandes joined the Premier League club last January, but has already become one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s biggest players.
The 26-year-old was excellent in the second half of the 2019-20 campaign, helping Manchester United climb to third place in the Premier League and reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Fernandes’ form has attracted the attention of Real Madrid and Barcelona and the Spanish giants will consider launching moves, according to The Sun.
While Fernandes has impressed in Manchester, recent reports suggest the former Sporting Lisbon star is privately questioning manager Solskjaer.
Fernandes was even said to be ‘unhappy’ at the club, just eight months after coming through the gates, though he and Solskjaer have both dismissed the reports.
Speaking at his press conference prior to Newcastle United, Solskjaer said: [Bruno] He’s clearly not happy with the stories but welcome to United, here’s what’s up.
“They are going to try to create a division between us, but it is not going to happen.”
However, it is believed that Fernandes was ‘angry’ at being substituted during Manchester United’s recent embarrassing loss to Tottenham.
Responding to rumors that he had a ‘fight’ with his teammates at Old Trafford and coach Solskjaer, Fernandes said: ‘I am just grateful to the coach because it was he who loved me and believed in me.
‘The tactics he uses are perfect for me. I think it is a way of destabilizing the group. What was said is not true at all.
“It is true that the coach decided to take me out against Tottenham, but he told me it was because the game was over and we have much more to do.
‘Of course he wasn’t happy about being replaced, but I understood. I did not speak or say anything that could harm the team.
“ If someone wants to create discord at Manchester United, do not use my name or that of my teammates or the manager.
“The mood is good and obviously we are sad when we lose, but now we have to respond in the next game.”
