West Ham have signed Algerian winger Said Benrahma from Brentford in a deal that could total £ 30m.
Benrahma, 25, joins on loan for £ 5 million, but the Hammers are required to make the transfer permanent for £ 20 million, with another possible £ 5 million in add-ons.
He completed the first part of his medical exam on Thursday, but a problem had arisen, which was resolved in time for the deal to go ahead on Friday.
Benrahma said he had joined a “massive” and “historic” club in West Ham.
He added: “I like this perspective [of playing in the Premier League]. I play soccer to have fun first and foremost, but it’s always nice to know that you join the most watched league in the world, so I’m definitely eager to show what I can do.
“West Ham is a historic club, which has been in the Premier League for a long time. It included and still includes good players. It is a huge club in England.”
Manager David Moyes said: “We have been looking to bring in players who are hungry and determined to progress and improve.
Said is an exciting talent with a lot of skill and the right qualities, who will complement the rest of the attackers we have at the club.
Benrahma, who will wear jersey number nine at London Stadium, scored 17 goals in 43 Championship appearances last season when Brentford reached the play-off final.
The Bees signed Benrahma from the French club Nice for less than £ 3 million two years ago.
Although the transfer window was closed on October 5 for Premier League clubs to hire players from abroad, they were allowed to do business with Football League teams until 17:00 BST on Friday.
