Mesut Ozil faces Arsenal exile until the new year with Mikel Arteta set to leave a £ 350,000-a-week misfit OUT of his 25-man Premier League squad
- Mesut Ozil hasn’t played a minute with Arsenal in seven months
- And he’s expected to be left out of Mikel Arteta’s 25-man Premier League squad.
- It would mean that the midfielder would stay out in the cold until the new year
Mesut Ozil has received no guarantees that he will be included in Arsenal’s Premier League squad next week.
Ozil has not played for the club since March, but manager Mikel Arteta explained that he and defender Sokratis were excluded from their Europa League plans so that their team could comply with UEFA rules.
Arteta faces the same headache before naming his 25-man Premier League squad on Tuesday, with his group consisting of 19 foreign players, two more than they can register.

When asked if Ozil would be in it, Arteta sidestepped the question and said: ‘I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t on the Europa League team.
“It is a difficult decision for me because leaving the players out of the squad, where they know they cannot get involved, is difficult.
“I don’t like it at all, but unfortunately the decision has to be made because we have an excess of foreign players.”
Arteta, whose team returned to league action against Manchester City on Saturday, told Ozil and Sokratis head-to-head that they were running out and hinted they have two months to prove him wrong as he can play his team in January.
Arteta said: ‘They have to respect that decision, try to train in the best possible way, help the team as best they can and see what happens.’
