Liverpool’s skyline will become the towers of Gotham City for this grand production, starring Twilight actor Robert Pattinson as the legendary DC Comics hero.
The film, which also features Liverpool’s St George’s Hall, will be released in June 2021 by Warner Bros.
It will be a reboot of the franchise, with Pattinson taking on the iconic role of Ben Affleck, who donned the famous Batsuit for the big-budget films Batman vs. Superman and Justice League.
As Liverpool enters the Level Three lockdown, some people have asked why production on the film was allowed to continue when local businesses like pubs, bars and gyms had to close.
Liverpool City Council does not comment on individual productions taking place in the city, but when approached by ECHO, they confirmed that the restrictions do not limit filming.
A spokeswoman said: “The new restrictions in Liverpool do not currently affect filming in the city region. The Film Office is working closely with each production to ensure safe covid measures are in place and adhered to according to rigorous industry protocols. “
In scenes filmed at St George’s Hall, 34-year-old Robert Pattinson donned a black suit and matching face mask as his character Bruce Wayne attended Gotham’s mayor’s funeral, along with Zoe Kravitz’s stunt double in between. of filming scenes as Catwoman.

Robert filmed his entrance to City Hall for the service, pausing briefly to observe the piles of flowers that had been placed in honor of the mayor.
The film portrays a younger Batman, and the director hopes to emphasize the detective aspect of the character to a greater extent than previous films.
Other big names in the cast include Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.
Filming in the city was supposed to begin in March, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production was halted.
American filmmaker Matt Reeves, who is directing the upcoming superhero movie, had spoken at the DC FanDome, a virtual convention held by DC Comics and Warner Bros.
During an interview, he confirmed that Liverpool will be the backbone of Gotham City while they shoot the remaining 75% of the movie.
A fan asked Matt, “What should we expect to see from Gotham City in this movie?”
He replied: “It is as important as any of the Rogues Gallery, it is how the nature of this place and its history is critically important to our history.”
“One of the things that I really wanted to do because it is the center of this story, especially the story of corruption in the city, was that I wanted to present it in a really developed way.
“I wanted it to feel like an American city you’ve never been to.”
Matt continued: “Let’s say there’s like a Gotham Square, so it’s like Times Square, right, now if we shot it in Times Square, then it would be like I suppose Gotham is New York.
“But in our case, it will actually be Liverpool and the idea is to go to Liverpool, where the whole base of Gothic architecture is and then add all the more modern structures via CG.
“But in a way, when you see the movie, you’ll say, ‘Hey, where is the city, where did they film?’
“So looking at Gotham and realizing it has been one of the great joys of making the movie for me.”
