The number of coronavirus deaths in UK hospitals has risen by 40 in the past 24 hours as millions of people are forced to apply stricter lockdown restrictions.
NHS England reported 13 more deaths in hospitals, in Scotland there were 13, in Wales there were 10 more deaths and in Northern Ireland there were four more deaths.
Last Thursday, October 8, the death toll in hospitals tragically increased by 58.
The previous Thursday, October 1, the number of Covid-19 patients who died in UK hospitals increased by 55.
This was an increase from Thursday, September 24, when 33 more hospital deaths were recorded.
On other recent Thursdays, the death toll in hospitals rose to 21 on September 17 and nine deaths on September 10.
The toll increased by 17 on September 3, nine on August 27, five on August 20 (the lowest since the blockade was imposed in March) and 13 on August 13.
Yesterday, the death toll in hospitals rose by 97, the highest increase on a Wednesday in four months.
England reported 68 new deaths, Scotland had 15, Wales had 10 and Northern Ireland had four to bring the overall hospital count to 35,524.
Scotland has recorded 13 deaths of coronavirus patients in the last 24 hours, Nicola Sturgeon announced.
This brings the death toll from this measure, of people who tested positive for the virus for the first time in the previous 28 days, to 2,585.
In a statement at a virtual session of the Scottish Parliament, the Prime Minister said 1,351 people tested positive in the last 24 hours.
This is 17.6% of the newly screened people, up from 16.4% on Wednesday.
She said 44,036 people have tested positive in Scotland, 42,685 more than the day before.
Of the new cases, 450 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 374 in Lanarkshire, 161 in Lothian and 111 in Ayrshire and Arran.
601 people in the hospital have been confirmed to have the virus, an increase of 31 in 24 hours.
Of these patients, 13 were in intensive care, two more.
There have been another 727 Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 33,041.
Public Health Wales said that 10 more deaths had been reported, with the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic rose to 1,698.
There have been 763 new cases of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland in the latest 24-hour reporting period, the Health Department has announced, bringing the total to 23,878.
This includes 6,394 new positive cases reported in the last seven days.
There are 201 Covid-19 patients being treated at the hospital, with 24 in intensive care.

Thursday’s figures come after the Health Secretary announced that London, Essex and Elmbridge would move to the Level 2 lockdown, along with Barrow-in-Furness, York, North East Derbyshire, Erewash and Chesterfield.
The measure prohibits residents in these indoor gathering areas outside their homes and supports bubbles.
