A “rule of three” system has been introduced to simplify local lockdowns at coronavirus hot spots.

The new Government model of “Local Covid Alert Levels” in England will function as a traffic light system with three distinct levels: medium, high and very high.

In areas with particularly high levels of infection, pubs, gyms and casinos could be forced to close their doors to stop the spread of the virus.

Boris Johnson said that these new Covid alert levels were being introduced to “avoid the misery of a second lockdown.”

What is vEry high level / lock level 3?

For areas with a very high level of infections. The Government will establish a baseline of measures for any area at this local alert level. Consultation with local authorities will determine additional measures.

The baseline means that the following measures have been implemented:

  • Pubs and bars are required to close and can only remain open where they operate as if they were a restaurant, which means that they serve hearty meals such as main lunch or dinner. They can only serve alcohol as part of said meal.
  • Wedding receptions are not allowed
  • People should not meet anyone outside their home or support bubble anywhere indoors or outdoors, whether at home or in a public space. The “Rule of Six” applies in open public spaces like parks and beaches.
  • People should try to avoid traveling outside of the ‘very high’ area they are in, or entering a ‘very high’ area, other than for issues such as work, education, access to youth services, to fulfill care responsibilities or if they are in transit.
  • People should avoid spending the night in another part of the UK if they reside in a ‘very high’ area, or avoid spending the night in a ‘very high’ area if they reside elsewhere
